Reception for the Diplomatic Corps
On 22 June 2026, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Austria hosted a reception for the Diplomatic Corps at the St. Johanns-Club in Vienna. The event showcased the Order’s wide-ranging international humanitarian work, which today extends to more than 120 countries.

The Eurovision Song Contest as a platform for high-level discussions
The Eurovision Song Contest is the world’s most watched music event. As Austria won the contest in 2025, the event took place in Vienna this year, from 19 to 23 May 2026. During the preliminary rounds and the final, the City of Vienna and Lord Mayor Michael Ludwig took the opportunity to foster international contacts.

Ambassador speaks on international Human Trafficking
In addition to the already well-known aspects of this crime against humanity – such as sex work, labour exploitation, organ trafficking and child trafficking – H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Prince of Schoenaich-Carolath spoke about a new form of crime against children known as ‘grooming’ or ‘sextortion’. Children or young people are lured into, and subsequently forced to create and send increasingly intimate images or videos of themselves. This is followed by threats to publish the material or forward it to family and friends. This child pornography is then sold worldwide. Subsequently, children and young people are blackmailed (e.g. through demands for money or sexual abuse) to produce ever more images and videos.

Federal President of Austria visits Order of Malta Care facilities
During the visit to Austria by the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra' John T. Dunlap, end of November 2025, H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Prince of Schoenaich-Carolath organised Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to accept the invitation to visit the ‘MALTESER Ordenshaus’ care home together with his wife, Mag. Doris Schmidauer, in order to learn first-hand about the current challenges in inpatient and mobile care.

Official visit of the Grand Master to the Republic of Austria
During his visit to the Republic of Austria, the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra' John Dunlap, was welcomed by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. The two heads of state visited the MALTESER Ordenshaus and MALTESER Care nursing facilities in Vienna together. A meeting with the Mayor of Vienna, Dr Michael Ludwig, and a working meeting between the Grand Chancellor and Federal Minister Claudia Plakolm rounded off the visit.
