At the start of the new year, deserving benefactors were invited to the fore and awarded the Order of Merit ‘Pro Merito Melitensi’ by H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath.
During the visit to Austria by the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra' John T. Dunlap, end of November 2025, H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Prince of Schoenaich-Carolath organised Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to accept the invitation to visit the ‘MALTESER Ordenshaus’ care home together with his wife, Mag. Doris Schmidauer, in order to learn first-hand about the current challenges in inpatient and mobile care.
During his visit to the Republic of Austria, the Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra' John Dunlap, was welcomed by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. The two heads of state visited the MALTESER Ordenshaus and MALTESER Care nursing facilities in Vienna together. A meeting with the Mayor of Vienna, Dr Michael Ludwig, and a working meeting between the Grand Chancellor and Federal Minister Claudia Plakolm rounded off the visit.
H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Prince of Schoenaich-Carolath was received by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV during a general audience.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres therefore issued a message today, on the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, met on 8 July 2025 with the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, and Grand Hospitaller Josef D. Blotz to exchange information. The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Austria, H.E. Sebastian Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath, accompanied the talks in Rome.
On the occasion of the feast day of the Sovereign Order of Malta, H.E. DI Sebastian Prince of Schoenaich-Carolath, Ambassador of the Order to the Republic of Austria, hosted the traditional diplomatic reception at the St. Johanns Club in Vienna on 24 June 2025. In his speech, the Ambassador emphasised the Order's special role as a subject of international law and as a humanitarian aid organisation – a combination that is becoming increasingly important in crisis regions around the world.

During the international pilgrimage of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Lourdes, which took place from 1 to 5 May 2025, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Austria, H.E. DI Sebastian Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath, met the Grand Master of the Order, Fra' John T. Dunlap. Traditionally, the Grand Master accompanies the Order's pilgrimage to Lourdes, in which more than 3,000 MALTESER pilgrims from all over the world take part.
